Creativity in Small Towns Essay
For The Creative Independent
I love small-town artists. I love “secondary” cities. And I love talking about how much they mean to the creative space. I have spent many years of my life working directly with creatives, often guiding them in the early stages of their careers. And let me tell you something… small-town/rural folk get me every time. From a mother of four living in Egypt, to friends living in rural parts of the Midwest, all the way to the couple living in a tiny village in the Philippines — every conversation about creativity has moved me to my core. This piece shares some of my views about ownership of creativity (hint, hint, nobody owns that shit!) and some practical ways you can reframe the way you look at your environment to realize the tools for creativity are already present!
